FAQs

How long will therapy last?

For individual clients, length and frequency of therapy vary. However, I choose to work with clients on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. Some clients may find that they get what they need after 8-10 sessions, or may be in therapy for 1-3 years or longer. For relationship/partnered clients, our work tends to be focused, goal-oriented, and geared to 8-12 sessions. Follow-up sessions are available for relationship/partnered clients who wish to check in after the initial round of sessions.

Regardless of the length of treatment, it is recommend that the final session be planned, so that we can summarize the work that has been done in therapy and say "good-bye." This resolution is associated with better long-term outcome rather than an abrupt termination.

How long are the therapy sessions themselves? How often are they held?

Individual sessions are 50 minutes. Relationship/partnered clients sessions are 90 minutes. EMDR sessions may be done in one 50 minute session, or may be extended depending on need. Both individual and relationship/partnered clients sessions occur weekly or bi-monthly.

Will I get homework?

Relationship/partnered clients will be asked to reflect on the information in our session throughout the week, including prompts for practice outside of therapy. Individual clients may be given prompts to reflect on between sessions. In both cases, putting tools to work for you outside of therapy sessions can be beneficial.

What is the age range of clients you work with?

I work with teen, and adult clients.

What if I want to get therapeutic help for someone else?

Sometimes people call to seek treatment for a friend or relative. If you are calling to try to arrange therapy for someone over the age of 18, I will be happy to listen to your concerns, but you will not be able to make an appointment for anyone other than yourself. The potential client must call or email to be scheduled for an appointment. Once the appointment is scheduled, I cannot share any further information with you, due to confidentiality concerns, unless the client gives written permission.
